Our History

Malton Inflight Limited was formed in 1989 by our current CEO, Gordon Oakley.

Initially, the Company's strengths were in sourcing and manufacture in China with products such as Hot Towels, Amenity Kits, Headphones and Fun Packs. In 1993, Malton Inflight was one of the first airline specialist companies to open a dedicated sourcing and inspection office in China.

Most of the Company's products are now sourced from China, with independent inspection assured by Bureau Veritas. Today Malton has representative offices in Shenzhen and Shanghai.

award winning innovation

Malton Inflight was a member of the International Travel Catering Association (formerly IFCA) since the Company was formed and exhibited annually at the organisation's trade shows throughout Europe. In 1998, the Association awarded Malton the first of five Mercury Awards for Wic-Kid; an innovative interactive children's fun pack linked to an online website - a concept deemed way ahead of its time by the judges!

Two years later the company won its second Mercury Award for the Gash Gobbler, a leak-proof Trash Compactor Box, which has since been upgraded and is now in use with many airlines around the world.

Following this, in 2003, a third Mercury was gained for an innovative 2-in-1 Handsoap and Air Freshener product, which has since been upgraded to include a sister product; Airgenie 2-in-1 Moisturiser and Air Freshener.

Royal Pearl swept the awards for a fourth time on its 30th anniversary in 2012, taking home a gold Mercury for highest standards in innovation. The natural and environmentally friendly seashell chinaware was lauded as a sustainable and ethically conscious alternative to bone china.

Our latest Mercury came in the ergonomic shape of a serving flask, precision engineered to maximise storage in an aircraft's standard units. We were delighted to see Ministro take home the gold at last year's Abu Dhabi ceremony. A proud moment for our Managing Director, Gordon Oakley, as he stepped up to collect the award. Ministro has since continued this success, becoming the flask of choice for over twenty of the world's major airlines!

environmentally friendly aproach

In 2004 Malton Inflight became one of the first airline supply specialists to develop a unique range of environmentally-friendly, compostable "plastic" products made from sustainable materials such as corn and potato starch, with its Back2Earth range.

The company moved it's head office operation to Basepoint, near London-Gatwick airport in April 2007 and has initiated the process to become fully accredited to ISO 2001.
